4 Things Your Agency Isn’t Telling You

Marketing agencies LOVE to talk the talk, but there’s a few things they probably aren’t telling you.  Here’s the hard truth ⤵️

▪️Nothing is consistent (except you).  Whether it’s trends trends, algorithms, platforms people are using - the world of social is constantly changing.  Something that doesn’t work one day might be the key to going viral the next.  And something that has been working for months, may one day be tanking.  The one thing that you do have control of, and that has been proven time and time again to be the key to success, is staying consistent.  Keep producing, keep engaging, and the results will come.

▪️More likes and followers does not always mean more business.  I think this is one of the most unknown facts of social media.  Likes and followers are what’s called “vanity metrics” - they look great for popularity purposes, but they do little to nothing in terms of benefiting your business.  This is why doing things like purchasing likes and followers will not help to improve your company’s financial status (not to mention the negative impact it has on your reach).

▪️You probably won’t go viral immediately.  This is another common misconception I find clients coming to me with.  The truth is, going viral is most commonly the combination of the perfect post, the perfect time, and an account that is already very well established.  While it does happen occasionally, it is very rare for a new account (created within the last year) to go viral or gain huge traction right away.  The bright side of this however, as hinted at before, is “virality” or having lots of likes or followers is not the key to successfully improving your business via social media.

▪️The key to selling on social media is not advertising your product (or service).  I know this sounds counterintuitive, but hear me out.  People get on social media to escape.  They want to be entertained.  They want to be educated.  They want to be engaged.  They do NOT want to be sold to.  So if they come across your account and are immediately met with a sales pitch or an advertisement, they will likely scroll past no matter what the product is.  However if they come across something entertaining, educating, or engaging them in a way that just happens to mention or include your product, they are much more likely to become a regular follower and customer.

When searching for the perfect agency for your company, pay close attention to the claims they make. If they seem too good to be true, chances are they are entirely false.
